Community Empowerment Project

Community Empowerment Program (CEP) is a project initiated by Joy for Children-Uganda to support women in the community with Income Generating Activities (IGAs). The overall aim of the programme is to provide training for skills development and guidance in starting and managing small businesses.

The women utilize skills attained and  locally available materials such as recycled papers, banana fibres, wood, sisal, papyrus, threads, used drinking straw to make beautiful crafts, jewelry, fine ladies bags, cell phone pouches, decorations and other art pieces. This work enable women earn income though they lack qualifications for formal employment.   The money realized from the sell of these products can be used to send children to school meet utility and medical bills, buy food and other basic necessities.
We also use CEP to educate and empower women on sexual, reproductive health and rights. This enables women to take charge of their families, bodies and determine the number of children they can produce including practicing safe sex.

Currently a total of 25 women are benefitting from the program and are able to send their children to school and meet the daily necessities of life.
