SLUM COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT PROJECT

SAVING AND MICRO CREDIT
It was initiated for women in the slums to able to save and borrow money at a very low interest rate without a collateral security. This has improved the lives of women, who have been able to save and access small loans to start small business such as sweets, fruits, baking, weaving among others. The SMCS is run and managed by the women.

THE JEWELERY PROJECT
Women through women groups have been given skill in making beads using locally available materials like paper, glue, vanish and strings / threads.
Women cut papers in different sizes and designs, role them neatly to produce fine jewelry that can have market in both local and international markets.
They have also been involved in making ladies hand bags from raffia, hats, dolls, and mats.

However the market is still small and not reliable at the moment. But we are striving hard to find more reliable markets for these products so that we can improve the standards of living of the people especially women and children in the community.

BIG CHURCH EVENT IN ENGLAND
During the event held in england on the date of 28th-29th, May 2011, Joy For Children Uganda was able to exhibit the products of the slum project made by the women of Kivulu, Kampala Uganda. The event was very colourful and for that matter JFCU appreciates everyone who contributed to its success.
Also on behalf of the women in the Kampala slum project, JFCU would like to thank all the people who helped organize the sales and all those who purchased the products at the event, May God bless you all.
